  About Monty Krizan

   August 6, 1943 - April 22, 2018

Albert and Monty (Excerpt from a St. Paul Pioneer press article)

Monty Krizan got his first snake not long after he graduated from college when he decided to get an animal for a club he was managing. After examining what was on offer, he bought a Burmese python

He says that club patrons liked the snake and he was happy but the owners were not. He switched to going to schools with the python and an iguana to talk to children about the rain forest.

His collection grew over the years and Krizan has become a self-taught expert on reptiles, the Pioneer Press said. But he always warns children who tell him they would like one for a pet to proceed slowly.

"Your first trip should be to the book store."

Monty's Traveling Reptile Show became a television show filmed in Canada. It was shot in the Global Calgary studio in northeast Calgary, Alberta. The show ran on 2 & 7 in the 1990s. Nephew Brian Teigen said that if it were not for the complications resulting from trying to cross the border from the U.S. with so many reptiles, they likely wouldn't have stopped visiting.

Monty J. Krizan was born on August 6, 1943 in Glenwood City, WI. He was the son of Albert and Irene (Frantz) Krizan. Monty graduated from Glenwood City High School, then he went on to serve his country in the 82nd Airborne in the Santo Domingo area. After his discharge, he earned a degree in Journalism & Communication from UW River Falls. He then worked for a few years before realizing his passion for reptiles and started Monty's Traveling Reptile Show. His love and devotion to the reptiles was shared throughout North America through educational presentations, exhibits and a TV show in Canada and his legacy will continue. Monty died on April 22, 2018 at his California residence.
